Nostalgic Vibeset ft. Aaron Thorpe (@Paradoomer)
Tuesday Feb 22, 2022
Tuesday Feb 22, 2022
This week, we're joined by Aaron from The Trillbillies Podcast to talk about a recent essay he wrote about nostalgia, gritty reboots, hauntology, and the inability to conceive of any kind of future, let alone one that might actually be better. We talk about how and why reboots fail to capture any kind of contemporary moment in the age of content, and why this has also led to a situation where shows about teenagers, and ostensibly *for* teenagers, are actually geared toward and discussed by people in their 30s, trying to re-imagine their teen years. We also talk about what's been going on with Facebook recently, its weird swathes of viral content which make zero sense, and why going on Facebook is very much like the early stages of a stroke.

Milo returns to the poster's dome to talk about how and why comedians have become influencers and what this suggests about how we think about comedy and making jokes. We talk about how internet culture has changed comedy, and the way that comedians develop routines and profiles - being far more aware of online discourse, than the audience they're actually playing to - creating a situation where to be a very successful comedian, you don't really have to be funny. You just need a bit of charisma when you're doing a mad rant. Healthy!
We also talk about how the Bored Ape Yacht Club is the fault of David Foster Wallace, and why we should ban all MFAs right now.

This week, we're joined by academic researcher Sam Hoadley-Brill (@deonteleologist), who has been diligently following the most influential posters in America, who have successfully weaponised 'critical race theory' through relentless posting. Sam talks to us about how posting strategies created a lexicon in which CRT ended up becoming a meme, loaded with connotations of western civilisational collapse, and how Christopher Rufo, once an obscure right wing think-tank wonk in the 2000s, was able to utilise social media platforms to reframe the post-Trump culture wars, with effects not just in America, but throughout the rest of the Western world too.
-------
We also talk about Paul Joseph Watson's lamentation over No Nut November, in which he believes that the woke soyboy left have corrupted the true meaning of 'no nut' and its reactionary origins of banning all internet porn. Hussein and Sophie jack into the Matrix once again to complete the watch of the latest Matrix movie. Now that Neo is once again "out", we find out what happened to Zion after the humans-machines war, how the new Matrix is powered through tons and tons of posts, and the great heist to reunite Neo with Trinity by sending Chad to the virtual divorce court. In the second half, we talk about how Lana Wachowski thinks about revolution and radical optimism being co-opted, and the ways in which that can and should be resisted, leading to a conclusion which, while at first might seem cynical, provides practical insights into how power can be exacted to literally rebuild society with rainbows, blue hair and pronouns.

Tank Engine Elegy ft. Amelia Horgan
Tuesday Feb 08, 2022
Tuesday Feb 08, 2022
We're joined this week by writer and academic Amelia Horgan, author of Lost In Work, which is published by Pluto press. We talk about the recent drama with Reddit's Anti-Work sub, and the complications of defining anti-work movements, especially in relation to white collar digital labour jobs and the work of fuelling the content economy. Amelia talks about how we might conceive of 'work' in these spaces, and why it'll be necessary for a future filled with digital assets, pumped up crypto scams and further alienation of labour from production. We also talk about the recent discourse around whether its abusive to let your kid watch Thomas the Tank Engine if you are of the belief that the trains are sentient and anthropomorphic - only to realise that the person making these claims was, once again, getting mad at Alice.

We're going back to where it all started....back to the Matrix!
We're once again joined by the podcast oracle, Sophie (@sophie_frm_mars) to talk about the new Matrix movie, in which Neo and Trinity find themselves in a new Matrix - a Matrix *within* a Matrix, where everything has bisexual lighting, Neo is sad and drinks a lot of tiny coffees. We talk about why this was a reluctantly made sequel for Lana Wachowski, the efforts to produce something new within an economy fuelled on nostalgia, and, of course, why all the funko pop guys are, once again, mad online.

The Text Man Cometh ft. Magdalene Taylor
Tuesday Feb 01, 2022
Tuesday Feb 01, 2022
We take our first steps into the world of "tiktok" this week, as Magdalene Taylor (@magdajtaylor), a senior writer at MEL magazine, talks us through the West Elm Caleb discourse, and what happens when pile-ons, projections and participatory posting are co-opted by brands on social media platforms. Indeed, what happens when we get tired about making fuccboi content, and the fuccboi becomes *the* content that needs constant regeneration. While it's likely that nobody is talking about Caleb anymore, it seems clear that this is probably the next stage of the 'main character'. We also talk about "fuc*ing the text man for texts" as a rare example of a perfectly written post - and one that explains transactional relationships (and hyper-transactional exchanges) in a better way than any of us could on the pod.

Phoebe couldn't be on the bonus this week, so Hussein sits down with Travis from QAnon Anonymous to talk about what's been going on with Q guys since Jan 6th, the splintering of its factions as they descend into even weirder conspiracies, and their relationship to posting - in which being online is not just an addiction, but a sense of duty. Travis explains how, when it comes to QAnon, posting is proof of your dedication to the 'movement' and, reaffirmation of your faith in Q. Essentially, we conclude that it's not too unlike K**op Stans (do not tell them I said this).

A Dummies Guide To Ozposting ft. Andrew Law
Tuesday Jan 25, 2022
Tuesday Jan 25, 2022
This week, we're rejoined by Andrew Law (@IllyBocean) from Boontavista to talk about the kooky characters of Australian Twitter. This includes a guy who believes he is solely responsible for trending topics, people who are *really* into voluntary lockdowns because they realise it makes for great content, and some Australian witches, who are somehow just as bizarre as other self-fashioned witches in other commonwealth nations. Plus, we talk about why mundane movie opinions always go viral, and what it is about David Lynch that seemingly makes everyone mad online.

Fellas, is it gay if you shed a tear? That's the subject of most of today's episode, as we attempt to dissect a thread in which a kind of trad (?) woman tries to make the argument that men shouldn't cry because she doesn't find it attractive, and then tries to walk back on it, then double down on it, all while people are getting mad at her throughout. The lesson? Once your tweet gets retweeted more than 10 times, delete it! Nothing good will come out of it!
We then issue an apology re. saying that there are no wife guys left, as we are confronted with "Snow Wife Guy" , a local news reporter who found himself become the main character as he watched his poor doctor wife shovel snow after a night shift. Dudes Rock!
